How to carbonate home brew

howtobrewbeer Home - howtobrewbeerGetting fizz into your home brew is easier than you might think. To carbonate your home brew all you need is some sugar. When it comes time to bottle your home brew there will be a small amount of active yeast left in your brew. All you have to do is add some sugar, put on the cap and let the yeast do its thing. Not only will your brew beer carbonated but the alcohol content will be slightly raised too.

For carbonating beer you will need around 1 level teaspoon per 750 ml of home brew or around half a teaspoon for an ordinary sized beer bottle. I would recommend using dextrose or Coopers carbonation drops. If you didn’t have these you could use ordinary sugar but this may leave a cidery taste to your brew.

If using Coopers carbonation drops use 2 drops per 750 ml or 1 per ordinary beer bottle. It all comes down to personal preference, if you like more carbonation use more sugar.

Always remember to leave plenty of room for gases created from carbonation or you could end up with bottle bombs!
